A baby bear is a young bear. Baby bears are also called cubs, and they are typically born in the winter months while their mothers are hibernating. Cubs are born blind, toothless, and covered in fine hair, and they depend entirely on their mother for warmth, nourishment, and protection. As they grow, they become more independent and start learning how to forage for food, climb trees, and interact with other bears. Depending on the species of bear, baby bears can range in size from just a few ounces to several pounds at birth.
